Pokemon Uranium EV Training Guide: Ninja Dojos, Power Items, and the Punching Bag

A complete Pokemon Uranium EV training guide: unlock the Ninja Reunion sidequest, find all six dojos, and earn every Power item.

Why EV Training Matters in Pokémon Uranium

A Pokémon's base stats only tell half the story. The other half is effort values — the invisible points every Pokémon quietly collects from battles, and the single biggest lever you have over whether your team feels sharp or sluggish.

The good news is that Pokemon Uranium EV training doesn't have to mean grinding wild encounters for hours. A single sidequest unlocks a free, repeatable training service run by six ninja masters. This guide covers the whole system: how to start the Ninja Reunion quest, where all six dojos hide, which Power item each ninja hands over, and exactly how many EVs the Punching Bag awards per round.

The underlying math is simple and unforgiving: four EVs become one extra stat point at level 100, a single stat can hold at most 252 EVs, and a Pokémon can carry 510 EVs in total. Scatter them randomly and you get a Pokémon that is mediocre at everything. Focus them and you get a sweeper that outspeeds its checks or a wall that survives hits it has no business surviving.

Maximum EVs across all stats510
EVs required for +1 stat point (Lv. 100)4

That last row is where Uranium separates itself from the mainline games. Instead of hunting specific wild species for hours, you unlock a service that hands out EVs in predictable, measurable chunks — and it never costs a single Poké Dollar.

How to Unlock the Ninja Reunion Sidequest

Everything about Pokemon Uranium EV training flows from one optional quest. It begins in Tsukinami Village with grandmaster Yoshitaka, who runs a training dojo east of the PokéCenter. The official Pokémon Uranium website and its patch notes are worth checking if you want to confirm quest behavior for your version before you start.

  1. Enter Tsukinami Village and head east from the PokéCenter, then follow the path north to the dojo.
  2. Trigger the opening cutscene. Yoshitaka hands you a letter addressed to his six grandchildren.
  3. Visit all six ninjas, each of whom operates an EV-training dojo in a different corner of Tandor.
  4. Return to Yoshitaka's dojo after the final delivery to complete the quest.

Two things are worth knowing before you commit:

  • While the quest is active, Yoshitaka's dojo is the only place you can EV-train. The disciples' dojos open their doors to training only once the reunion is finished.
  • The completion rewards are permanent and generous: free Punching Bag training, a Macho Brace, and a Volchik — the only way to obtain that Pokémon without trading.

One piece of player experience worth repeating: do not accept the Volchik if both your party and PC storage are full. You can leave, release or move a Pokémon, and come back to claim it — but if there is no room at the moment the gift is offered, the Pokémon is gone for good.

All Six Ninja Dojos: Locations and Power Items

Finding all six dojos is the slowest part of Pokemon Uranium EV training, largely because half of them hide behind surf routes with no obvious landmark. Here is the full list, including the Power item each ninja hands over.

StatNinjaLocationReward
HPTarouRoute 12 — surf east from Route 5 to a grassy beach island, then head upPower Weight
AttackMikiRoute 3 — leave Burole Town south, surf right from the beach past the rocks, then northPower Bracer

Special AttackDaichiBaykal Forest — enter from Amatree Town, take the bottom path, surf east and hug the south wallPower Lens
Special DefenseHitomiRoute 15 — from Silverport Town surf straight down while hugging the right wallPower Band
SpeedAyumiRoute 7 — after Rochfale Tunnel, surf on the water above the rest house and head rightPower Anklet

Tips for Finding the Hidden Dojos

  • Baykal Forest is the worst offender. Enter from Amatree Town, take the lower route, and surf east along the southern wall until you find a spot where you can step off the water. The dojo sits just past it. Entering from Route 4 and surfing west also works.
  • Hitomi's Route 15 dojo is in a pocket that is easy to sail past. Hug the right wall the entire way down from Silverport Town.
  • Ayumi's Route 7 dojo is a short detour from the Rochfale Tunnel exit. Look for the water directly above the rest house.
  • Tarou and Miki both require Surf, so clear the gym that unlocks it before you start the deliveries, or you will be making two trips.

The Punching Bag: How Many EVs Per Score

Once the quest is finished, EV training at Yoshitaka's dojo costs nothing at all. You pick a Pokémon, pick a stat, and play the Punching Bag mini-game. Your final score converts to EVs at a rate of 40%, rounded down — so a score of 50 yields 20 EVs, which is worth five stat points at level 100.

156
208
2510
3012
3514
4016
4518
5020

Two details make this system friendlier than standard EV grinding:

  • The service caps a stat at 252 EVs. If a Pokémon already sits at 255 in a stat, a single Punching Bag round drops it to 252 no matter what you score.
  • That correction is a gift, not a bug. Because stats only care about multiples of four, EVs 253 through 255 do nothing at all. Reassigning those three points to another stat is strictly better.

In practice, this means you can safely train a stat to its natural maximum and let the mini-game trim the waste for you.

Battle Training: XP Farming with the Ninja Masters

Completing the quest also reopens all six ninjas as repeatable battle opponents. Each runs a five-Pokémon team of level 52 Pokémon, all the same species, themed around their specialty. Because you can rematch them as often as you like, they double as one of the most convenient experience sources in Tandor.

NinjaSpecialtySpeciesNormal XPExp. ShareLucky EggLucky Egg + TradedLucky Egg + Exp. Share
TarouHPDunseraph2,1061,0533,1595,3701,579
MikiAttackBaariette2,7301,3654,0956,1422,047

The remaining four follow the same pattern with their own signature species — Kenichi brings Gargryph, Daichi brings Krilvolver, Hitomi brings Electruxo, and Ayumi brings Inflagetah. Every battle also pays out ₽1,560, which adds up quickly if you are saving for expensive items.

Because each team is built around a single species, you can plan a counter in advance. Bring one Pokémon that resists their key moves, and you can clear all five opponents with a single team member while a Lucky Egg handles the multiplier. A traded Pokémon holding a Lucky Egg earns the largest share of the table above, while Exp. Share splits the gain across your party.

Practical Pokemon Uranium EV Training Tips

Planning beats grinding. These habits will keep your spreads clean and your time investment low.

  • Decide the spread before you start. Write down the target — for example, 252 Attack / 252 Speed / 4 HP — and verify it after every Punching Bag round.
  • Respect the 510 total. A 252/252/4 spread uses 508 EVs. Overshooting wastes points you cannot recover without a reset item.
  • Use the Power items you earned. As in the mainline games, Power items are held items tied to a specific stat, so keep the matching one equipped if you train through battles rather than the mini-game.
  • Treat the Macho Brace as your default grinding item. Community reports consistently describe it as the standard training aid for battle-based EV work.
  • Train EVs first, then level up. Effort values apply as your Pokémon gains levels, so finish the spread while your Pokémon is low-level and let the ninja rematches do the rest.

FAQ

Is Pokemon Uranium EV training really free after the Ninja Reunion sidequest? Yes. Once you have spoken to all six ninjas and re-entered Yoshitaka's dojo, the Punching Bag service costs nothing to use. There are no Poké Dollar fees, no item requirements, and no cooldown — you can run the mini-game as many times as you want.

Can I EV-train before finishing the sidequest? Partially. While the quest is in progress, Yoshitaka's dojo is the only place in Tandor where EV training works. The full Punching Bag service is a completion reward, so it pays to finish the deliveries before you start planning serious spreads.

What happens if I use the Punching Bag on a Pokémon with 255 EVs in a stat? The stat is automatically reduced to 252, regardless of your score. That is beneficial, because EVs only contribute to stats in multiples of four — the extra three points are dead weight and are better spent elsewhere.

How many EVs do I need for a maxed stat? 252 EVs in a single stat, plus four EVs (one stat point) in a second stat to round out the spread. Remember the 510-EV total cap, which means you can fully max two stats and still have a few points left over.
